How to Use Plates & Sheets Weight Calculator?
The calculator is simple and convenient to operate, and the user begins by choosing his or her material among the available options (Steel, Inconel, Monel, Copper-Nickel). The next step entails the length, width, and thickness of the sheet or plate in the units (i.e. mm or inches) that are required, and the quantity of pieces. Once all the fields have been filled, press the Calculate button, and the approximate weight will be created automatically. The Reset/Clear will be applicable in case of a new size or to switch the material. The entire process is automatic and involves minimum human intervention as well as helps you to alternate between the process of sizing and weighing estimation.
Weight Calculation Formula for Steel Plates & Sheets
The calculator uses a proven formula to estimate the weight of a plate or sheet:
Weight = (Length / 1000) × (Width / 1000) × Thickness × Density
Here:
- Length and Width are in millimetres (mm).
- Thickness is also in mm.
- Density is the specific material density in kg/m³ (for example Steel ~7.85 kg/dm³ = 7,850 kg/m³).
This is used to convert volume (length x width x thickness) into cubic metres and then multiplied by density to produce weight in Kg. It should be noted that these are approximate weights and real weights can change depending on the surface treatments, tolerances or coating.
