Alloy 20 pipes and tubes are made from the nickel iron chromium alloy UNS N08020, which was developed to resist the corrosive effects of sulfuric acid and other highly corrosive acid solutions which have a tendency to reduce the service life of standard piping. Kalpataru Piping Solution offers seamless or welded construction alloy 20 pipes / tube in half-inch to 24-inch NB, from SCH 20 to XXS constructed to ASTM B729 / ASME SB729. All orders for Alloy 20 pipe and tubes include all chemical composition data along with a mill test certificate, ensuring the alloy content and mechanical properties of the material before it arrives at your location. With these high levels of nickel and chromium, Alloy 20 pipe is a standard specification used throughout chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and food grade acid duty piping in sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, nitric acid and chloride bearing process streams.

Welding and Fabrication
Alloy 20 is stabilized with niobium, which resists carbide precipitation during welding, so it can be fabricated and field welded without post weld heat treatment in most cases. The recommended filler metal for gas tungsten arc and gas metal arc welding is AWS A5.14 ER320LR.
Testing and Documentation
Every Alloy 20 pipe and tube order ships with a mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1. PMI testing and third-party inspection are available on request, covering chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensional checks and hydrostatic testing before dispatch.

What is the difference between Alloy 20 and 316L stainless steel?
Alloy 20 carries a much higher nickel content (32 to 38 percent versus 10 to 14 percent in 316L), which gives it far stronger resistance to sulfuric acid and chloride stress corrosion cracking. 316L is suited to general corrosion resistance and lower severity acid service.
