Chemical Composition of Inconel 625 Forged Fittings (UNS N06625 / ASTM B564)

The chemical composition of Inconel 625 (UNS N06625) per ASTM B564 is as follows. Molybdenum (Mo: 8.0 to 10.0%) and Niobium plus Tantalum (Nb+Ta: 3.15 to 4.15%) are the defining elements that distinguish Inconel 625 from other nickel alloys. Inconel 625 Socket Weld vs Threaded Forged Fittings

Inconel 625 socket weld fittings are joined by welding the pipe into a socket bore. They are preferred for high pressure and vibration prone piping systems in Oil and Gas, Subsea, and Chemical Processing service. Threaded (screwed) fittings use NPT, BSP, or BSPT thread forms and are suited for lower pressure and instrumentation piping where disassembly is required without cutting. Both types are manufactured to ASTM B564 from UNS N06625 billet and comply with ASME B16.11 dimensional requirements.

Applications of Inconel 625 Forged Fittings

Our nickel alloy 625 forged fittings and nickel alloy 625 forgings are used across critical industries where resistance to high temperature, high pressure, and aggressive corrosive media is essential. Key application areas include:

  • Oil and Gas: High pressure and high temperature wellhead connections, subsea piping headers, HP/HT downhole completions, and topside process piping where chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance is required.
  • Chemical Processing: Mineral acid service headers, phosphoric acid plants, nitric acid piping, and chloride-containing process environments where both pitting and crevice corrosion resistance are critical.
  • Aerospace and Defense: Aircraft hydraulic line fittings, fuel system connections, and high performance fluid handling systems where the superior tensile strength of 930 MPa and elongation of 42.5% are critical design parameters.
  • Nuclear Power: Reactor coolant system connections, containment piping fittings, and instrumentation connections in PWR and BWR plant environments where radiation resistance and corrosion performance are governed by ASME Section III codes.
  • Pollution Control and Flue Gas Desulfurisation (FGD): Scrubber nozzles, headers, and manifold fittings exposed to hot sulfurous gases and acidic condensates where Inconel 625 outperforms duplex stainless steels.
  • Marine and Offshore: Seawater cooling lines, ballast system fittings, and offshore platform piping where resistance to seawater pitting and biofouling is required without use of cathodic protection.

How Inconel 625 Forged Fittings Are Manufactured

Kalpataru Piping Solutions is a reputed Inconel 625 forging firm in Mumbai that produces ASTM B564 forged fittings under its quality control and complete export documentation. Any Inconel 625 forgings are hot forged in certified UNS N06625 billet at controlled temperatures to guarantee a completely wrought grain structure. Controlled temperature hot forging offers better mechanical properties than cast alternatives, higher tensile strength, fatigue resistance and better dimensional consistency.

All Inconel 625 forging is hot forged then solution annealed to produce the best corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. After forging, solution annealing is done to dissolve the carbides and re-establish the complete pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in the alloy. Being a producer of nickel alloy 625 forgings, we manufacture socket weld and threaded fittings using forged UNS N06625 billet, which has controlled grain structure and full material traceability between the melt and finished fitting.

The manufacturing process steps of every Inconel 625 forging involve: receipt of raw material and incoming inspection, hot forging using UNS N06625 billet, solution annealing heat treatment, machining to ASME B16.11 dimensional tolerances, surface finishing, dimensional inspection, PMI verification, NABL-approved laboratory mechanical and chemical testing, and final packing with EN 10204

FAQs | Inconel 625 Forged Fittings

What standard is used on Inconel 625 forged fittings?

ASTM B564 controls the material (nickel alloy forgings of UNS N06625). ASME B16.11 is a standard of dimensions that deals with socket weld and threaded fittings that are forged. All fittings are supplied with EN 10204 3.1 MTC.

What is the difference between socket weld and threaded Inconel 625 fittings?

Socket weld fittings are fastened by simply pushing the pipe into a socket bore and using fillet weld on the joint. They are used to service under high pressure and vibratory prone services. Threaded fittings are made with NPT, BSP or BSPT thread and are disassemblable. They are designed to work in the lower pressure instrumentation piping.

What are the pressure classes of Inconel 625 forged fittings?

Standard pressure classes are 2000 LBS, 3000 LBS, 6000 LBS, and 9000 LBS as per ASME B16.11. Classes that are most frequently provided are 3000 LBS and 6000 LBS of socket weld and threaded respectively.

What is the UNS number of Inconel 625?

Inconel 625 has the UNS number N06625. The European analogous name is WNR 2.4856. It is known as the JIS designation of NCF 625, the BS designation of NA 21, and the EN designation of NiCr22Mo9Nb.

Inconel 625 (UNS N06625) what is its chemical composition?

Inconel 625 is composed of: Nickel (Ni) 58.0% min, Chromium (Cr) 20.0 to 23.0, Molybdenum (Mo) 8.0 to 10.0, Niobium plus Tantalum (Nb+Ta) 3.15 to 4.15, Iron (Fe) 5.0

What are the test certificates of Inconel 625 forged fittings?

All Inconel 625 forged fittings are accompanied by EN 10204 3.1 Material Test Certificates (MTC) of NABL-approved laboratories. Other tests such as PMI, hydrostatic test, hardness test, and IGC test can be ordered as requested.

Is it possible to use Inconel 625 forged fittings in seawater or offshore service?

Yes. The very high molybdenum (8 to 10%) and niobium content provides Inconel 625 (UNS N06625) with excellent seawater corrosion resistance, pitting, and crevice corrosion. It is commonly specified on subsea, offshore and marine piping systems.

How long is the lead time of Inconel 625 forged fittings?

Ex-stock or within 2 to 4 weeks, standard sizes of 3000 LBS and 6000 LBS socket weld and threaded fittings are typically available. Special sizes, pressure classes or large quantities take 4 to 8 weeks. Confirm lead times with your RFQ with Kalpataru Piping Solutions.
