FAQs

Which aluminium grade should I choose?

6061 works well for general and structural use. 5083/5086 suit marine corrosion resistance. 2014/2024 offer higher strength. 7075 gives the best strength to weight ratio. 6063 suits architectural finishes. Tell us your application for a recommendation.

Pipe or tube, which do I need?

Pipe is sized by nominal size and schedule, mainly for fluid transfer. Tube is sized by exact OD and wall thickness, used where precise dimensions matter. Need an exact OD and thickness? Go with tube.

Seamless, ERW or welded, which should I pick?

Seamless suits higher pressure or critical service. ERW and welded work well for larger diameters at lower pressure. LSAW suits larger diameters with heavier walls. Share your pressure rating and diameter and we’ll advise.

Can I get custom sizes or lengths?

Yes. Standard stock covers 1 inch to 16 inch OD in Schedule 40. Custom OD, wall thickness and cut lengths are available on request, extruded to your drawing.

What documentation comes with my order?

Every batch is inspected and tested before dispatch, and a material test certificate is included as standard. Third party inspection is available on request.

How is my order packed and shipped?

Pipes and tubes are packed in wooden export boxes and shipped worldwide, with test certificates included as standard documentation.

FAQ’s About Monel Flanges

What is the maximum service temperature for Monel 400 flanges?

Monel 400 flanges can be used up to approximately 550°C (1022°F) in non-oxidizing conditions, making them suitable for high-temperature chemical processing and steam applications.

Can Monel flanges be used with hydrofluoric acid?

Yes. Monel 400 is the industry-standard material for handling hydrofluoric acid at nearly all concentrations and temperatures in de-aerated conditions, which is why it is widely specified for HF alkylation units in refineries.

What is the difference between ASTM B564 and ASME SB564?

ASTM B564 is issued by ASTM International, while ASME SB564 is the equivalent specification adopted by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. The two are technically identical for Monel forged fittings and flanges; ASME SB564 is typically referenced for boiler and pressure-vessel code compliance.

Do you supply Mill Test Certificates with Monel flanges?

Yes. Every Monel flange from Kalpataru Piping is supplied with an EN10204 Type 3.1 Mill Test Certificate as standard. Type 3.2 third-party witnessed certification and additional QAP or radiography documentation can be arranged on request.

What is the typical lead time for Monel flanges?

Standard sizes in Monel 400 and Monel K500 are typically available ex-stock or within a short lead time; custom sizes, pressure classes, or Type 3.2 certification requirements may extend delivery. Contact our sales team with your specification for an accurate lead-time estimate.

What is the difference between a Monel Slip-On Flange and a Monel Weld Neck Flange?

A slip-on flange slides over the pipe end and is fillet-welded on both sides, making it easier and faster to install at lower pressure ratings. A weld neck flange has a tapered hub that is butt-welded to the pipe, giving superior stress distribution and making it the preferred choice for high-pressure, high-temperature, and cyclic-load services.
