Kalpataru Piping provides high-quality super duplex steel pipes and tubes manufactured using SDSS 2507 and other high-quality super duplex grades with high chromium accompanied by molybdenum content that offer high corrosion resistance as compared to the standard duplex steels. Our super duplex products are affordable with lower alloys to be incorporated than austenitic or ferritic stainless steels without affecting the performance. Every super duplex pipes and tubes are highly tested including micro and macro examination, flaring, pitting resistance and intergranular corrosion (IGC) tests to make sure they are reliable, perform well, and meet international standards.

What is a Super Duplex Pipe?

Super Duplex pipes and tubes manufactured as per ASTM A790 and ASTM A789 are high-performance stainless steel products with a balanced austenitic–ferritic microstructure. Grades such as UNS S32750 and UNS S32760 contain high levels of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, providing exceptional strength, durability, and corrosion resistance. Super Duplex Stainless Steel pipes offer excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking, making them ideal for offshore oil & gas, chemical processing, desalination plants, marine systems, and high-pressure industrial applications. These pipes and tubes can operate at temperatures up to 600°F, have a density of approximately 7.8 g/cm³, and a melting point of around 1350°C, ensuring long service life. Additionally, ASTM A790 / ASTM A789 Super Duplex pipes in UNS S32750 and S32760 grades are highly weldable and machinable, allowing easy fabrication without the need for special equipment.

Super duplex stainless steel pipes are produced according to internationally accepted standards like ASTM/ASTM A789 and A790. UNS S32750 (ASTM A240 / A790) is characterized by a high level of strength and an outstanding pitting and crevice resistance to corrosion. UNS S32760 (ASTM A789 / A790) is more resistant to seawater and hostile chloride.

ASTM A790 / ASTM A789 Super Duplex Pipe Manufacturing Process

Let’s understand the process of manufacturing super duplex stainless steel pipes:

  • Steel Making: Super duplex steel is made through the use of Electrical Arc Furnace (EAF), and then Vacuum Oxygen Decarburization (VOD). With the help of the chemical composition & to maintain the necessary balance of chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and nitrogen to achieve a superior performance.
  • Pipe Manufacturing: The pipes are produced through seamless manufacture of cold-finished as well as non-seamless pipes production processes, which allows them to have perfect dimensional precision, uniformity in the wall thickness, and greater mechanical capabilities. This technique makes sure that the pipe construction is not weld-seamed and thus it can be used in high pressure and harsh conditions.
  • Heat Treatment: Super duplex pipes cannot be hardened through the traditional heat treatment. They are normally provided in the solution-annealed form in order to re-establish the proper microstructure, enhance corrosion resistance and alleviate internal stresses that are formed during the manufacturing process.
  • Super duplex steel pipes have price depending on various factors such as grade (S32750 or S32760), type of pipes (seamless or welded), size, schedule, wall thickness, number, and testing. The alloy content of super duplex pipes and their high mechanical and corrosion-resistant qualities makes them fairly expensive as compared to the ordinary duplex stainless steel pipes.
