ASTM B463 UNS N08020 Plates and Sheets Equivalent Material
The alloy 20 plates and sheets are manufactured in different standards, and some of the common ones are listed below.
UNS N08020 Alloy 20 Plates and Sheets Finishes
The alloy 20 plates and sheets are offered in numerous surface finishes to meet the various industrial and fabrication demands.
No. 1 Finish
This is a finish obtained through hot rolling, annealing and descaling. It is rough and it is matte and is primarily used in heavy industrial usage where looks are not a consideration.
2D Finish
The cold rolling, annealing, and descaling are used to produce a dull and smooth finish. It is usually selected in deep-drawn components, where lubricant retention during forming is of concern.
2B Finish
2B is one of the most popular types of finishes, and it has a smooth and slightly reflective surface. It is produced through cold rolling, annealing and light skin pass with polished rolls and therefore it is applicable in general industrial use.
BA (Bright Annealed) Finish
This finish gives it a clean, bright, and mirror-like finish. It can be used in applications where a smooth, hygienic or decorative finish is needed.
2BA Finish
It resembles BA but has a more balanced and shiny appearance. It is commonly applied on lightly shaped parts where one wants a bright finish.
CBA (Coarse Bright Annealed) Finish.
This finish is a softer, matte bright finish and is chosen due to either practical or aesthetic needs.
Polished Finish
It comes in different grits to suit specialized surface finish and look requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions ( FAQ)
What are Alloy 20 Plates and Sheets?
Alloy 20 plates and sheets are corrosion-resistant nickel-based alloy products designed for sulphuric acid and harsh chemical environments.
Is Alloy 20 plates better than stainless steel?
Yes, Alloy 20 performs better than standard stainless steel in acidic and corrosive conditions, especially sulphuric acid applications.
Is Hastelloy the same as Alloy 20?
No, Hastelloy and Alloy 20 are different alloys with different compositions and corrosion resistance properties.
Does Alloy 20 sheets require PWHT?
No, Alloy 20 sheets generally do not require post-weld heat treatment for most applications.
Does alloy steel turn green?
No, alloy steel does not turn green; green discoloration is usually associated with copper-containing materials or surface reactions.
